After witnessing the devastation in Sendai, Japan caused by the recent earthquake and tsunami, and now the serious threat of a nuclear meltdown, don’t you all feel silly and stupid for continuing this endless war-game you have thrown us, the global citizens, into?

Will you all (and by all that also includes political parties, special interest groups, corporatists and war-mongers) lay aside your anger and hatred, your fragile egos, and self-centered pride, and direct those feelings into compassion for our brothers and sisters in Sendai, Japan whose lives have been gravely impacted by recent events.

WE have had enough wars to last us hundreds of lifetimes. These senseless conflicts have burdened and ruined economies, displaced people from their homes, killed thousands of innocent victims , created strife and suffering for the aged and sick, women and children. Need I go on?

WE must open the door instead of looking through the keyhole to see the larger scope of what is happening right before our eyes. We’re in dire shape. Life on the planet is becoming worse by the day. And waging war is not the solution to the problem. Even before the Sendai cataclysms occurred, we have been experiencing serious global changes that are going to kick our arses big-time.

When it comes right down to it, WE are all facing the inevitability of death. It’s not how long you live for? It’s HOW you live? Do you want to go out in anger and hatred with regret and resentment for what you could’ve, should’ve or would’ve done? Or, leave this world with a clear mind that you did your best — no regrets with plenty of compassion and forgiveness to spare?

WE all share this planet. No one owns it. So let’s own our responsibility as custodians of the earth. There is no more time to waste – right now is the only moment that counts. Do something good for those who need help! Whether you believe in positive thoughts, prayers, meditation, rosaries, donations . . . whatever it may be – YOU and only YOU can own that moment!

Cheers!

To all the readers of Gram-of-Truth, the following message was sent to me by United States Congressman Alan Grayson, of Florida. I could write about what Labor Day means and how we have come to celebrate this day, but given the gravity of our economic condition and the deplorable unemployment rate, I thought Alan Grayson’s message said it best:

Today is Labor Day. All across America, millions of people are discovering that the best way to celebrate Labor Day is by not working.

Do you live to work, or do you work to live?

If you are married, look at your wedding album; are there any pictures in there of you at work?

And on your tombstone, do you want it to say, “I wish that I could have spent more time at work”?

Here is what Robert Kennedy had to say about this, 42 years ago:

“Too much and too long, we seem to have surrendered community excellence and community values in the mere accumulation of material things. Our gross national product … if we should judge America by that – counts air pollution and cigarette advertising, and ambulances to clear our highways of carnage. It counts special locks for our doors and the jails for those who break them. It counts the destruction of our redwoods and the loss of our natural wonder in chaotic sprawl. It counts napalm and the cost of a nuclear warhead, and armored cars for police who fight riots in our streets. It counts Whitman’s rifle and Speck’s knife, and the television programs which glorify violence in order to sell toys to our children.

“Yet the gross national product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages; the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials. It measures neither our wit nor our courage; neither our wisdom nor our learning; neither our compassion nor our devotion to our country; it measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile. And it tells us everything about America except why we are proud that we are Americans.”

When Robert Kennedy said these words, the unemployment rate in America was 3.7%. Today, it is almost three times as high. Too many of our working brothers and sisters are out of work, thanks to over a decade of economic mismanagement. 10% of us are unemployed, and the other 90% work like dogs to try to avoid joining them. Which is just what the bosses want.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. I look forward to a Labor Day where every worker has a job, every worker has a pension, every worker has paid vacations, and every worker has the health care to enjoy life.

My opponents call that France. I call it America, an America that is Number One.

Not #1 in wasted military expenditures.

Not #1 in number of foreign countries occupied.

Number One in jobs. Number One in health. Number One in education. Number One in happiness.

As Robert Kennedy famously said, “I dream of things that never were, and ask ‘why not?’” Why not? Let’s make it happen.

And then all of us who are Americans, including the ones today who are jobless, homeless, sick and suffering, we all can then say, “I am proud to be an American.”

Are you with me?

Truth,

Alan Grayson

Have i.q. levels just dropped to a new low? Or has selective amnesia set in for most people who have chosen to ignore or better yet “forget” that our country is experiencing one of the worst fiscal deficits and economic crisis in it’s short history. Why is it that we expect President Obama to suddenly fix what has been broken for many years? In fact, I really think his hands are tied as to what he can accomplish during his term as president.

Let’s begin with why our country is in such dire straits.

Outsourcing Jobs.

Let’s stroll down memory lane to the early 1980’s when the U.S. was experiencing a slow economic growth period compounded by high unemployment and high inflation commonly referred to as “stagflation”. Back then our government began to sell high-yield government bonds to foreigners who saw this as an opportunity for safe investment. When a bond is purchased, the purchaser is lending money to a government, municipality, corporation, federal agency or other entity known as an “issuer”. The issuer provides a bond that promises to pay a specified rate of interest during the life of the bond and to repay the face value of the bond (the principal) when it matures.1 Imagine how the foreign investors must have felt knowing that as long as the US government is obligated to repay the principal and interest on the bonds, this gave them the peace of mind to know that they could maintain steady rates and be guaranteed a cost advantage.

That created a big problem for American industries.

Certain industries were plagued during that time, despite assistance from the government. Michigan and Pennsylvania that were once strong industrial states were experiencing massive job losses. American car companies had to create radical changes to ensure cost parity and profitability. GM closed one of its largest factories in Flint, Michigan and moved it to Mexico. Outsourcing manufacturing jobs to cheap labor was a way for companies to return to profitability. The trend toward outsourcing which started in the 80’s had exploded in the 90’s. Thus NAFTA was formed during the Clinton administration creating the “free trade” agreement with Mexico and Canada. NAFTA opened the doors for jobs to leave America in pursuit of lower wage rates, non-existent environmental standards and trade without restrictions.1

With Outsourcing came Globalization.

U.S. multinationals were already experienced with manufacturing overseas, so they took the next step and began setting up IT and research departments overseas as well. Now we come to China and India. With advancement made in technology and communications, this allowed transnational companies to fully globalize with little out-of-pocket expense. Again, cheap labor with the same level of technology expertise found in America, but without the $100,000 per year entitlement and the added expense of health and medical insurance coverage per worker.

For every dollar we spend in buying products made in China, we increase the size of their economy and decrease the value of our own American workers. I’m all for each country to climb out of the poverty well and into a better and healthier lifestyle which should be the intention of all governments to pursue. To care for their people. To make sure that they have the very basic infrastructure for a society to flourish. Wait a minute, isn’t that our very own “American Dream” that so many people believe in?

We’re now in such debt to foreign countries, especially China, that I can’t even fathom how our government, no matter which political party is in office, can pull us out and stabilize our debt to these foreign investors? According to U.S. Treasury data released on June 15, China held $900.2 billion in U.S. Treasuries at the end of April. Add to that two foreign wars against countries that never attacked us or any of our allies, and we have financial and human loss in unfathomable proportions. We have racked up trillions of dollars of deficit, a suspicious housing crisis, unthinkable job losses, and now we are experiencing an unprecedented environmental catastrophe on our own shores that will critically impact generations to come. Most of this debt will hit the American taxpayer — who else? Yeah, perhaps BP is paying for the current clean-up and offering payouts to those workers or business affected by this calamity, but the future repercussions aren’t even tallied yet.

Now there’s talk of risk of a “double dip” recession according to certain economists, and the political stakes for the Obama administration are rising as the midterm elections get nearer. Don’t blame the Obama administration for the massive economic crisis we’re experiencing as a country. Read and investigate where all the wealth and power has gone before you start pointing the finger. Come election day, we can either elect the same kind of mentality that got us in this predicament in the first place. Or we can use our gray matter and start assessing information. A well informed mind can make an educated guess. Our disappearing society is something that will have an impact on every single American rich or poor.

The banks, the corporatists, the manufacturers should all be held accountable. As long as they are making profits, they are not in any hurry to create jobs or to help those who are losing their homes. As long as government funding streams in to bail out bad debt, the banks are growing into behemoth entities and becoming more powerful than our own government. It seems as though they knew something like this was going to happen way before it did. Stop property speculation from ever happening again, and bring back some normalcy to real property investment. Refinance the existing mortgages that were formed before the housing crash, which would ease their own debt or give those home-owners a chance to sell without taking a huge loss. Everyone wins. The banks get their money. The owner gets to breath again, and new home-owners get to purchase a home at a reasonable interest rate. The market will grow at a steady pace, American investors can re-invest in their own country, people will find jobs and feel proud of what they do, and markets will begin to flourish without the exaggeration of Wall Street howlers. And the government can start increasing tariffs on foreign investors which will keep greedy investors and sellers from running amok.

Sounds simple. But with so many hands in the pot, and so many puppeteers pulling the strings of our politicians, that simple idea is something that will probably remain just that, a simple idea.

Please remember who started these wars. Remember who walked away from one of the worst financial crises in our history without so much as “I’m sorry”. He lives on a ranch in oil land and hasn’t a care in the world. Nice job “Brownie”!

The Destinee Charity Foundation believe that in order to ensure the economic and social well being of each country, and subsequently, the world, we must start by investing in those most marginalized – our children – in addressing their basic human rights and needs.

“A child will forever benefit from primary education… “ as stated by Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary General, United Nations, reporting on the progress of Millennium Development Goals 2008.

By 2015, the Millennium Development Goals hope to achieve universal primary education. According to their statistics: Globally, 570 million children are enrolled in school. The number of children of primary school age who were out of school fell from 103 million in 1999 to 73 million in 2006. In that year, primary school enrolment in developing countries reached 88 per cent on average, up from 83 per cent in 2000. In sub-Saharan Africa, the net primary school enrolment ratio has only recently reached 71 per cent, even after a significant jump in enrolment that began in 2000. Around 38 million children of primary school age in this region are still out of school. www.un.org/millenniumgoals.

Sadly, most of the indigenous communities in Cameroon in Western Africa lack the very basic educational facilities; therefore, the children remain uneducated and unskilled. An appalling ninety-nine percent (99%) of the children cannot read or write, and girls view their bodies, instead of their minds, as their only means of survival. Though the girls are the most marginalized and vulnerable members of these communities and though their future looks bleak, they are the most eager to learn and improve their lives.

To help them, Destinee Charity Foundation is in the process of constructing and equipping a fully functional basic primary school for the indigenous children of Kilombo-Kribi, in southern Cameroon. But right now, their resources are being stretched. Children in Kilombo desperately need your help now more than ever. The total cost of construction, equipment, and managing the school amounts to $50,000.00 USD. They’ve managed to start construction, raising almost half the budget of the project through government funding and private donations, but they need help making it the rest of the way.

With your extraordinary support, children can go to school for basic programs in math, reading, and writing; gain access to health care, better nutrition, and cleaner water; and ultimately help their communities find sustainable solutions for themselves. Please give in any way (money, supplies, clothing) and any amount that you can. Find out how you can help now by going to their website – www.destineecharity.org

September 8, 2009, marks the annual International Literacy Day as proclaimed by UNESCO in 1965. Since its inception in 1946, UNESCO has remained a committed and dedicated champion of global literacy efforts. Yet, with over some 776 million adults lacking minimum literacy skills, literacy for all remains an elusive target.

What does literacy mean? The United Nations defines literacy as the ability to read and write a simple message in any language.

With the highest illiteracy rates found in the less developed nations of Africa, Asia, and South America; the lowest are in Australia, Japan, North Korea, and the more technologically advanced nations of Europe and North America. Using the UN definition of illiteracy, the United States and Canada have an overall illiteracy rate of about 1%. In certain disadvantaged areas, however, such as the rural South in the United States, the illiteracy rate is much higher.1

Literacy is at the heart of basic education for all, and essential for diminishing poverty, reducing child mortality, curbing population growth, achieving gender equality and ensuring sustainable development, peace and democracy.

You can participate in the International Literacy Day by organizing a marathon race, a 100-mile hike, a movie-fest in order to raise literacy awareness. You can blog about it, twitter it — but by all means remember the millions of illiterate children and adults who have not had the means to pursue a proper education. Find a charity and donate, or volunteer your services in promoting the building and managing of schools, raise funds to hire teachers, or teach the teachers if you are qualified to do so. Give back so that you may know how much has been given to you.

Increase literacy and you can increase self-empowerment!

Finally, we are beginning to see some serious involvement from celebrities who are taking a stand against Domestic Violence. Some are getting involved by using their own talent in sending a very clear message to the public that this kind of hate crime needs to cease and desist immediately. Below is a link for a video in which the actress Keira knightley is sending a clear message to the public in her portrayal as a victim of violence. It is shocking to see. Yet, it is happening every minute of every day to some woman or girl somewhere on the planet. Take a look:

A year ago, the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, had made a vow to stamp out the violence against women and children . And, on March 5th, 2009, he has made another declaration to end the violence against women, only this year’s theme is “women and men united to end violence against women and girls.”

Terming the phrase violence against women as a “crime against humanity”, Ban Ki-moon has asked world leaders to help end the “alarming” number of such cases around the world. “Violence against women cannot be tolerated, in any form, in any context, in any circumstances, by any political leader or by any government,” he said in a speech to mark International Women’s Day which is celebrated every year on the 8th of March.

But I say to you Mr Secretary General, not enough is being done to even make a dent in alleviating the suffering and humiliation that our sisters and daughters are subjected to on a daily basis. You can make all the speeches you want pledging your commitment to end the violence against women and young girls, whom are mostly war refugees. Yet, the very culprits who are committing these atrocities are not interested in listening to speeches. I doubt if they even care whom they hurt.

It seems that the only way to prevent these misogynistic acts of violence against women and girls is to keep the men away from them. Look at the areas where these abominations are taking place and you will see that they have two common denominators — poverty and tribal/religious conflict on a massive scale. Things like basic shelter, food and water are a luxury to these people. They are just trying to survive from day to day. The female refugees are always receiving the brunt of any conflict. It takes more, much more than funding and donations to pull these innocent victims out of the carnage that man has created.

According to a UNICEF report, in the world’s least developed countries, many of which are at war, women are 300 times more likely to die in childbirth or from pregnancy-related complications than in developed countries. With religious/tribal warfare and other armed conflicts affecting entire regions, women are always at risk of rape, sexual assaults and savage beatings. Many times the young girls become pregnant as a result of sexual abuse and because of insufficient security situations, these young women often have no means of safe transportation to reach proper health care facilities to give birth. As a result, a large percentage of them die during child birth.

All the declarations made by upstanding citizens of the world are not going to save the little girls or the young innocent women that will more than likely be raped, beaten or sold into prostitution tomorrow or the next day. Armed conflict and religious/tribal warfare is a disease just like AIDS and Ebola –you get rid of one and then another emerges and can be deadlier than the other. It’s not enough just to stamp out the violence in one area when another potential hotbed is surfacing. By ending the religious/tribal warfare one of the major causes of violence against women would have been rooted out. Poverty is a symptom but it is not the cause of violence. People, especially in poor countries, have proven to live together quite peacefully. But as long as leaders like Mugabe, al-Bashir, the Janjaweed militants and the Taliban are in power, the plight of the women and children who are unfortunate to live under their watch will have to live each day in fear, crying themselves to sleep, praying for help, and suffering an agonizing existence in an unsafe world run by men. As long as there is war and poverty co-existing at the same time, the violence against our sisters and daughters will not stop.

So I ask you, Mr. Secretary General, how do all the world leaders plan to root out the violence against those poor women and young girls who merely survive day-by-day?

A child’s life should be one of joy. . . and through their innocence the adults will find their own joy.

On December 31st, when the clock struck midnight 2008 was ushered out and 2009 began. Traditionally, this is a time when a person makes a pledge to change something about his or her “self” or establishes a new goal. For example, giving up smoking cigarettes, running three miles everyday, becoming a vegetarian, losing ten pounds, saving more money, going on that dangerous trek to the Amazon jungle, etc. Those pledges all seem reasonably achievable. But aren’t those types of resolutions kind of egoistic? Way too many times I’ve seen how resolutions turn into superficial promises, which never come to fruition. In fact, most people I know just revive the old ones year after year? Perhaps if we live long enough, we’ll achieve at least one resolution we made.

. . . and the clock strikes 12

Yet, I believe that a resolution could be extremely empowering. Think of it as a clean slate, a way to burn off past karma — a new beginning. A New Year’s resolution should be more profound than just giving up bad habits or seeking recognition for personal accomplishments. A New Year’s resolution is a seminal moment in time when we, as an intelligent species, get to project out to the universe our intentions to improve our way of relating, or work towards effecting a positive change in our attitude towards others and how we perceive the world.

“Father Time” provides us with a way of examining our past actions and judging whether we as conscious beings are evolving or if we are stuck in self-serving, repetitive actions year in and year out. All we need do is to look at past events and see for ourselves just how selfish and egoistic all societies have become. The Madoff scandal. Wall Street Crisis. Senseless Wars. Religious intolerance and zealotry. Poverty and health crisis. Corporate Greed. Blood for Oil. Economical breakdown. Global pollution. The list goes on. Do we want to continue supporting this bad, B- movie drama over and over? Or do we want to plant our flag and declare to change what we can? And change begins in the mind as an idea which translates into action. Electing Barack Obama was a great example of how an idea can become a powerful wave that carries the tide of change. But Obama is Obama, and you are you. He can’t change you – only you can change yourself.

So I ask: What declaration of intent will bring about a positive and harmonious change in my “self”, in my community, in my society, in my family and circle of friends? Will I make every effort to change the destructive patterns that have caused me mental anguish and discord? Will I endeavour to be present in every moment that unfolds and accept everything that comes my way without resistance or resentment? And when I do make this resolution will I make a firm promise to put my heart and soul into manifesting said “resolution” for this New Year? I can only say “yes”!

A new resolution is like planting seeds for a new harvest. You will reap what you sow. The seed of an idea can only grow as strong as the soil is fertile. Plant well and live well.

This past June I was invited to participate in an 8-day wellness retreat at the Nirarta Center for Living Awareness in Bali, Indonesia. I also acted as the on-site Massage Therapist administering to the needs of the participants. I ended up staying in Bali for 3 weeks.

I can recall when our taxi driver turned the car down the drive-way to the Nirarta Center how my eyes widened in amazement when I saw an enormous statue of Ganesh, the Hindu deity, placed firmly at the entrance ready to greet all who had arrived. Ganesh is one of my favorite deities not only because he is widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles but he is a man with an elephant’s head, and I love elephants. My first thought when I saw that beautiful statue was that I’ve entered the magic kingdom.

The Nirarta Center is built on a ridge that overlooks a long, winding river and is surrounded by lush-green, tropical plants, exotic flowers and terraced rice fields. There are six traditionally built bungalows that can accommodate up to 22 guests. Each bungalow has upstairs and downstairs and each offers a stunning view of the tropical landscape. In the backdrop of Nirarta, on a very clear day, you can see the peak of Mt. Gunung Agung, one of Bali’s most sacred volcanoes. Because Nirarta Center is situated higher up on the island the weather is cooler with gentle breezes and soft cumulus clouds that bring the tropical rains.

Nearby is the village of Sidemen that is within easy distance to some of Bali’s well-known attractions such as, Besakih Temple, the summit climb up Gunung Agung, Tenganan and other local villages known for creating traditional painting and weaving artistry. All of these are easy day trips and can be organized through one of the staff members at Nirarta. I went a little mad looking at all the beautiful handwoven silk and cotton cloths, jewelry, carvings and paintings that if I could have, I would have bought most everything in sight. And bargaining with the Warung keepers (shop-keepers), who enjoy the art of negotiating as much as the tourists do, was also part of the wonderful Bali experience.

The group organizer of the Wellness Retreat program facilitated a solid routine of early morning breathing and stretching exercises in the Great Hall plus mid-morning and afternoon Silat Kung Fu training, as well as some evening classes for advanced students. Breakfast was served at 7:30AM. It was either ala carte or buffet meals of traditional Balinese recipes prepared with Nirarta’s organically grown vegetables and fruit. After consuming a sumptuous and healthy breakfast each participant would venture out of the centre to go exploring nearby villages or sit down at the riverbank and enjoy a cool dip in the fresh clear water until the mid-morning workout session began.

After another good sweat from a vigorous workout we would return to our rooms, shower and rest a bit. At 12:15PM we would meet at the dining area for a luncheon feast of some more traditional Balinese food. Come early afternoon or late evening I would give a therapeutic massage to one of the attendees in a cute little hut situated on the ridge above the river. The sound of the cascading stream was better than listening to mood music and would literally lull the person into quick relaxation mode.

Part of the Wellness Retreat wasn’t only about having a great workout or receiving bodywork, we were also there to experience the Balinese way of life by participating in some of their traditional customs and rituals. On the first night we were entertained by a group of male Gamelan musicians and a traditional Legong dance performed by the nearby village girls and boys.

One day we were taken on an adventurous trek to a mountain temple where we would have to climb not only a mountain but ascend at least 1000 steps (or so it seemed) to reach the famous temple. What the Balinese call a gentle hike and was only supposed to take a half day to climb up and back, us westerners would call a “black-diamond ski run” which took most of the day to climb up and back. Yet that adventure was one of the most memorable and invigorating experiences of my time.

For each ceremony we attended or each temple we would visit we would have to wear the traditional attire of a kamben, a cloth (usually batik) wrapped around the waist (wrapped and tied differently by men and women). Women would have to wrap a sash tied around the waist, and the men would have to wear a headdress called an udeng. The Balinese follow the Hindu dharma path and on one of their religious holidays we were taken to the sacred temple on Mt. Agung to attend a ceremony. A heavy mist shrouded the peak of the temple giving it a mystical quality as worshippers ascended the ancient steps leading to the area of the main shrine. Once we were inside we found a place to sit on the ground and followed the example of our guide on what to do during the ritual. The atmosphere was super-charged with a feeling of love and great devotion. Throughout the entire temple the sweet fragrance of incense permeating the air induced me into a sublime state of mind. After the priest bestowed his blessings, we rose and went into another area of the temple and everywhere I looked there were dozens upon dozens of hand-woven baskets decorated with colorful flowers and filled with various food offerings. There was no shortage of those colorful displays which added to the ethereal atmosphere. The sacredness of participating in such an ancient ritual and receiving the blessing from the priest was truly an honor and an unforgettable experience I will always treasure.

Sunsets are especially grand in Bali as it occurs every evening around 5:30PM. Dinner time was an absolute delight and we all looked forward to this convivial atmosphere of great cuisine, affable conversations, and comfortable weather. But most importantly, each participant was precious and significant to the success of the Retreat as was the amazing generosity of the entire Nirarta staff. On our last night we engaged in a huge celebration with a delectable feast, dancing and being entertained by the staff members playing their traditional musical instruments.

My memories of Bali and Nirarta are indelible to say the least. If there isn’t a retreat taking place in Bali that you can join, then take some time for yourself to be by yourself in the magical paradise of Nirarta where Peter and his staff will look after you. Once you are there you can attend the twice-daily meditation practice that takes place in the meditation hall or have a private consultation with Peter who offers re-patterning or transformational coaching. For more information about Nirarta for Living Awareness visit their website at: www.awareness-bali.com

There is much to do in Bali or you can simply do nothing and just be present and alive in each moment in paradise. But this much I do know, be prepared to extend your Bali sojourn.

For Christmas I received such a gift. I am one of many sponsors of a baby female orphaned elephant named Dida who lives at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya. A group of railway workers found her trapped inside a manhole. She was only four weeks old at the time. Her mother and family were nowhere in sight. If she had not been found by these concerned men, she would have faced certain death inside the manhole or would have been eaten by the local tribes who consider elephant meat a delicacy.

After the baby elephant was pulled out of the manhole, the workers notified the Sheldrick Trust and soon a group of Keepers from the organization went out to retrieve little Dida. She was flown to the Trust Nursery in Nairobi where she is being properly nurtured and cared for. Through the support of the Sheldrick Orphan Project young elephants and rhinoceros are placed in a nursery where they are fed a particular milk formula, receive 24-hour care by the many keepers of the Trust, and are in close contact with the older orphans that become the baby’s extended family. This is a very crucial stage for the newcomers, as it provides the familial bond that is vitally necessary for their emotional well-being.

With the help and devotion provided by the generous people of the Sheldrick Trust Orphan Project, the life of a young elephant or baby rhino that has lost its mother and family will receive the proper care and nurturing for the orphan to grow up and eventually be released back into the wild. This selfless act is also vital in sustaining the necessary growth of the elephant and rhinoceros population for without programs like the Orphan Project they would certainly meet a premature death and both species would always live under the threat of extinction.

Elephants are one of the most amazing species of animal life on the planet. Their emotional and familial instincts are so closely related to humans that some of these baby elephants can easily die of a broken heart if they aren’t quickly cared for. No more poaching and butchering for ivory. No more acts of mutilation for the rhino’s horns.
